Over the last couple of days, I have learnt quite a few things.

The first is that a ceiling fan can be use to create a sort of background white noise that cancels out a lot of the bizarre sounds in a Kenyan village at night, which otherwise startle me out of sleep in a highly alert state! The downside to the ceiling fan’s background noise is that it also cancels out Hamisi’s discreet knocking on my door when someone appears at 4am with a scorpion bite on their hand. That patient had to go to the hospital instead, but thankfully he got it sorted out there and recovered just fine. Otherwise it would have been one of the Aspivenin suction devices’ baptism by fire last night, as I have only used them for mosquito and bed bug bites previously!

The second thing is that if someone comes to the clinic with the tip of their finger almost completely chopped off, it feels absolutely fabulous to be able to run upstairs, delve into the huge piles of clinical supplies from you wonderful people, pull out exactly what I need, and go put the man’s finger back together! AND dose him with appropriate medicine to keep infection at bay while it heals. I don’t know if the tip will re-graft itself properly but I was at least able to give it a chance. The patient is a stone worker who uses his hands all day, so it may make a difference to him in the long run.
The third thing is that it’s impolite to ask a Maasai warrior how many children he has. It’s fine to ask how many wives (three), but his children are a matter between only him and Spirit. He explained to me that it is a bit like if he asked me how much money I have in my bank account. It’s a private matter how much “treasure” one has, and while he does not have a bank account, his children are his treasure. So suffice to say, he has quite a few, but it’s not for anyone to know but him and Spirit.

Speaking of Maasai warriors, the fourth thing I have learnt is that it is entirely possible to have astral guide transference on a real live human being! There is a “guide” in energy form who I have often noticed when doing healing. He helps me remove things that shouldn’t be in a patient’s energy field and keeps me safe when things get scary. It feels like he has taken human form in James the Maasai warrior! James has been educating me about the ways of his people and I have been listening intently – with absolute fascination. The knowledge and traditions of his people fill the hole that I have in my heart, like many westerners, after we left living in tribes in nature behind.

So emergencies, surgery, medicine, healing and learning, and yet more healing, all continue to unfold, in one gigantic melting pot — known as Life. And it makes me smile.
