About Marcus Sorensen
I am a psychotherapist and teacher – and traveller when time allows.
My journeys have taken me to Denmark, Nepal, Kenya, Israel-Palestine, New Zealand, Germany, and elsewhere. I go for different reasons each time: following trails suggested by poetry, people, and professional purpose. Sometimes I plan a trip because of a glaring gap on the world map that calls to my curiosity and my predilection for predictable patterns—among the chaos of all the rest.
Why I Travel
I studied medicine, trained as a psychotherapist, and ordained as an interfaith minister. My work involves listening to people and helping them make sense of their lives. Travel offers something different: silence, space, and distance from the familiar. It is a break from the intensity of my day job, and a chance to encounter the world without expectations.
I walk when I can. I prefer going alone. I notice things.
What This Blog Is
This is a record of over a decade of travel. The posts document where I have been, what I saw, and what I thought about along the way. Some trips were long treks through mountains. Others were peace-building camps in conflict zones, or visits to ancestral lands, or explorations driven by questions about identity, history, and belonging.
I write to remember, and to share what might be useful or interesting to others.
Background
I have Danish roots and returned to walk the west coast of Jutland, where my ancestors lived. I have walked the Camino in Spain, trekked in the Himalayas, and spent time in places where people are working to build peace across deep divides.
My training as a therapist shapes how I see the world, but I try not to over-interpret. Sometimes a storm is just a storm, and a walk is just a walk.
