David Whyte Responds

identity memory

Those of you following my adventures last month may recall I was in Nepal, and I trekked to Tilicho Lake to recite David Whyte’s poem by the same name there… I posted a video of me doing just that on his page so he could see how far his poem had travelled, and he just sent me this response, which has me beaming:

“Marcus, this is David Whyte; your little video is more than a little moving, I was deeply touched to see and hear ‘Tilicho Lake’ being returned to its imaginative source. I think you have emancipated the poem into the beautiful free space in which it was meant to live. Thank you for reading it so well in such difficult conditions, the true shape of your own face looking back at us all the while in the high thin air and raw cold of the Himalaya.”
